Oh sweet Elizabeth! When she arrived with her family at my cozy Sumner studio I knew she was going to be great! I love her head full of blond hair, it reminds me so much of Alder’s hair when she was just born. It was such a pleasure to capture these priceless images for their family to cherish.  I also asked mama to share her birth story.  I love what she said when I asked:

What a great idea to include birth stories! When we went to birthing class with Addi the teacher told us to ask our parents about our birth stories as everyone remembers and love to reminisce about when their sweet babes came into the world.

Read on for her story along with a few favorites from this newborn portrait session.

Two days before baby girl’s due date I was starting to get pretty anxious to meet our new little one. To try and keep occupied we had spent the day enjoying the last moments of our daughter being an only child. After a busy day filled with mild contractions I was able to finally able to fall asleep. At 11:00pm I woke up with strong contractions 5-7 minutes apart (why don’t babies come during the middle of the day?!). My first labor was only 12 hours from start to finish, so I knew that things could happen quickly but only an hour later I told my husband that it was time to go to the hospital. When we arrived I was already 6cm and was immediately admitted. Wanting to avoid an epidural I spent time in the tub, on the birth ball, and struggling to walk to halls.

At around 4am my contractions were very close together and getting very strong, after some work my water broke and it was time to push. At 4:45 am the nurse suggested that we push for a while before the doctor came in, but she was sure that we would have a baby within an hour. One push later and we could all tell baby was coming now! The nurse yelled to stop (that is quite the experience!) and ran outside to get the doctor and the rest of the team. Once everyone was ready, my body took over (I didn’t even really have to push) and sweet baby Elizabeth Grace was here at 4:55am. It truly was a beautiful, and dare I say easy birthing experience.

My husband and I were able to spend some time together with our new daughter before he went to get big sister. I have never in my life experienced such a feeling as seeing them meet for the first time. While our oldest is only 2.5 I swear she had a little tear in her eye when she first met baby sister. Her excitement and love for Ellie was evident from the moment she saw her and we can’t wait to watch them grow-up together! It is amazing being a family of four!
