Tissue Paper Eggs | Crafty
Its me again, bringing you a fun Spring craft to do with the kids. This time I took a stab at my own tutorial, although I think I should have included a few more pictures. If you have any questions about how to do this craft feel free to email/comment and I will do my best to help! Here is our completed project, which is currently adorning our dinner room table, celebrating the Spring season.
Supplies you will need:
A dozen eggs (we used brown ones from our chickens, but any will do)
A pin/sharp tool (to poke a hole for blowing them out)
A wooden skewer (also helpful for blowing out the eggs)
Colored tissue paper cut into 1″ squares
Mod Podge or any white glue
Paintbrush/foam brush for glue
Misc. beads, craft wire, and clear line for hanging
Optional: large jar and branches to hang your eggs
1. First you will need to blow out your eggs to prepare them. There is a really helpful tutorial for this here if you haven’t done it before. Make sure you rinse them well and dry them completely.
2. Use a brush or foam brush to brush on some of your mod podge into a small area.
3. Place a piece of tissue over the glue, and then brush over top to completely cover and seal the edges.
4. Repeat, overlapping the pieces of tissue and making sure to cover completely with glue. Don’t worry about covering the holes at top and bottom, you can poke through them once your egg is dry.
5. Once the whole egg is covered set is loosely in an egg carton to dry. To prevent it from sticking to the carton, I picked it up and rotated it a few times during this process. It shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to dry if you put an even thin coat of glue. If your kiddo is like my daughter and seemed to really douse the thing with glue, it may take a few extra minutes 🙂 You can also speed up the process by using a warm hair dryer or heating tool.
6. Once dry, use a pin to poke out the top and bottom holes for hanging. Cut a piece of wire a few inches longer than your egg. Make sure the wire is straight and poke to through to holes to thread the egg. A little heavier gauge of wire works best so its stiff enough to poke through without bending.
7. Thread a bead (large enough not to fit through the hole) onto the bottom of the wire, then bend the end so the extra part can be pushed back through the hole inside the egg.
8. For the top, bend your wire into a simple loop and wrap a few times around to secure. Cut off any excess.
9. You can choose to hang your eggs from a branch like I did, by tying them on to some clear line, aka fishing line (If you can’t find some in your craft stash check your hubby’s tackle box!). You might also consider hanging them on your window using some little suction cups, I think they would look really pretty with the light shining through!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and give this fun, kid-friendly craft a try. It is a great way to get them in the Spring spirit, not to mention crafting with your kiddos helps them develop fine motor skills and is a great chance to spend time together!
what a great idea!!! super cute. 🙂
